Research themes: Prof. dr. Ernie Haerinck teaches Near Eastern archaeology at Ghent University. He participated in excavations in Iran, particularly in Pusht-i Kuh, Luristan and at Nush-i Jan and travelled extensively in the country. Furthermore besides several prospections, he organised 15 excavation seasons at ed-Dur (Emirate of Umm al-Qaiwain), at Mleiha (Emirate of Sharjah) and at Moweihat (Emirate of Ajman), in the United Arab Emirates. He also undertook a survey of S-Bahrain and Hawar Islands as well as two excavation seasons at Shakhoura, in N-Bahrain.
In more than 100 books and articles he published mainly on different aspects and periods in Luristan (W-Iran), rock carvings and ceramics in Iran and on SE- and NE-Arabia. He is editor of the international journal “Iranica Antiqua”, as well as editorial member of several other international series and journals. He is fellow of the “Royal Academy of Overseas Sciences of Belgium” and “Korrespondierenden Mitglied des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts”.
