Marv Dasht plain (1st – 3rd surveys, 1951, 1952, 1954-1955)

 

The first archaeological project in Iran of L. Vanden Berghe was the prospection of the Marv Dasht plain near Persepolis in the Fars region.

 

In the summer of 1951 (2nd May-18th Jully), he prospected the southern part of this plain (among others Tall-i Rubai, Tall-i Hadi) and made soundings in Tall-i Djari, Tall-i Mushki, Tall-i Gap (Tadjabad), Tall-i Shuga, Tall-i Chehel Burdji, Tall-i Gurgi, Tall-i Sauz, Tall-i Gap (Kinareh).

 

During the summer 1952 (23rd May-3rd August), he made a second journey, this time in the northern part of the Marv Dasht plain (among others Tall-i Kaftari, Tall-i Gap (Zangiabad)). He made soundings in Tall-i Qaleh (Hasanabad), Tall-i Kamin, Tall-i Taimuran, Tall-i Djalabad, Tall-i Gird, Tall-i Tangi Zardi, Tall-i Darwazeh.

 

Finally, in the winter 1954-1955 (26th December 1954-21st January 1955), he returned again in this area to make new soundings at Tall-i Qaleh (Hasanabad), Tall-i Kamin, Tall-i Taimuran.
